Awards and Contests

Goodness, they have awards too!

Junken Awards - winning films will be selected by audiences and posted online after the festival. All films screened are elegible.

Prizes - (so juicy) winning directors will receive honorable mention and a groovy Junken Film Festival 2007 Winner t-shirt!

Here are the categories...

Scissors - most cutting edge cinematography (film like we've never seen before)

Paper - best screenplay (outstanding dialogue and/or story)

Stone - groundbreaking in how we experience film, ourselves and culture

and did I say contests... Oh yes, since this is junken, everyone has a chance to win, even audience members. During the festival, a Junken movie trivia quiz will be available online and at all screenings. Answer as best you can and the lucky soul with the most correct answers wins a prize too.

Good luck!

The Power of Film

Film AID International & Junken
Junken Film Festival was founded to dissolve culture boundaries through film. Junken is 100% grassroots and yet in the spirit of being responsible bohemian-types, we're taking our investment in our community another step further. Junken is partnering with Film AID International. In addition to a monetary donation (a percentage of our proceeds), we'll grab every opportunity to educate our audience about Film AID, and ideally inspire them to continue their support on an individual basis.
Film AID International
Throughout the world, millions of people are living in refugee camps, having fled violent conflicts and upheaval in their home countries. Traditional aid organizations respond to their immediate physical needs for food, shelter and medical care, but other critical needs are left unattended. Intellectual, visual and aural stimulation are needs often overlooked in humanitarian responses where the first priority is naturally given to legal and physical protection, subsistence, and health care. Film AID International's mission is to use the power of film to promote health, strengthen communities, and enrich the lives of the world's vulnerable and uprooted. By packaging taboo subjects within entertainment, tough issues can be destigmatized.
FilmAid's programs address critical social issues such as HIV and AIDS, sexual and domestic violence, reproductive health and family planning.
"The idea of FilmAid is divine. if FilmAid had been thought of at the start of the camp, there would be less traumatized and mentally challenged people in Kakuma. People find an avenue to release tension and explore with their brains at the screening." - Burundian Refugee, Kakuma
