I want my film in the festival!

So you want to show your film at Junken.

Q: How do you choose the films?
A: Well, the fun of doing Junken, aside from the crazy hand gestures is the element of suprise...so we flip a coin (Yes, it's in - No, it's out). No, seriously, we select films that A. we like (make us laugh, cry, lust or scream - all those delicious emotions) and B. we think will compliment the other films. We also consider language and (subtitles) and our diverse audience's interests.

Q: What kinds of films are selected?
A: Excellent question! We are interested in independent feature length films, shorts, and documentaries. We will also consider animated films.

Q: What do you mean by 'independent'?
A: Webster's Dictionary defines 'independent' as not subject to control by others . Wikipedia describes independent films as usually low-budget and produced by a small movie studio. They go on to say "the term is used to describe less commercially-driven art films which differ markedly from the norms of plot-driven, mainstream classical Hollywood cinema". Uh-huh
Junken-speak defines 'independent' as creative, unique, visionary, real, occassionally innovative, artistic and emerging. Some films are made on a shoestring and chopsticks and others are produced with the enviable help of grants, loans and family. We don't care who foot the bill as long as it's good.

Q: Why Hiroshima?
A: This is where we live.

Q: How do I submit my film?
A: Email us at
junkenfilmfest@yahoo.com and we will forward an application and spec sheet to you to accompany your movie. Gaumbate!
